The Song Remains the Same by Led Zeppelin

This was a requested a while ago, but it took a while to tab. Sorry for the wait.

This song has 3 12-string electrics and 2 6-strings(telecaster thru supro) Ill try to keep them all straight for you.

The intro is 1 12string banging out an open D repeatedly. One 12-string plays this set of chords over it:

and the third 12 plays these chords:

Now one 12 stops playing and one 12 plays these chords while the second 12 plays the same chords but with an open D-string instead of a second fret D.

Now this chord sequence is played by 2 12`s the same way and repeat it. /-again the 2nd 12 plays the open D on this chd

Next is both 12`s playing this:

Next one of the 6 strings come in with the 2 12`s to play this:

One this next distorted part, the six string plays this: and 12`s play this

Here is the 2 12`s backing part to the first solo:

And the first 6 string solo:

Now the 6 string plays this figure a few times:

And ends it with this:

The 2 12`s play this after the solo: and end that section with a bunch of /-these

During the vocals, the 2 12`s play on this basic pattern with a few subtle changes on the first couple of measures.

While the 6 plays this on the first two measures.

And on the third measure the 12`s play this:

And the 6 plays this:

Heres that mid section thing:

On the last measure of the vocal part, the 6 plays this:

Then just bend the g-string 5th fret up and pick it as you release the bend.

The second solo is this:

After the next vocals bit, The 12`s play this chord sequence hitting each one 3 or 4 times: /--now just arpeggiate this chord

After that, the 12`s play this:

The 6 string part over that is:

And then the power chords with the 12`s and the 6

Next is as little soloing over the rythym laid down by the 2 12`s and 1 6

Now w/heavy distortion repeat this figure a few times and end it w/ that last little chord.

Well that`s about all of it. Sorry for any mistakes. CHUCK

Of course you all realize that I expect a complete tab of Jethro Tull`s `The Minstrel in the Gallery` for this. ;)

guit. 1 (12 string) ride on the open d throughout (listen to tape for rythem)

guit. 2 (6 string) D: A: E:

1

(12 string) E:

2

D: A: E: (let all notes ring) [end of **2**]

Guitar 1 goes to **1**

then

3

(guitar 1 (12 string)) E: | (guitar 2) E: | B: /

End Of **3**

then guitar 1 does **2** (finger pick notes of chords separately) while guitar 2 solos (the solo isn`t too difficult to figure out if ya listen to the tape..)

==

4

(guit. 1) G:--7-9--10-10-10- x4 |--7-9--10--9-10- x4 (keep strumming final chord) D: A: E:

(guit. 2)

End Of **4**

== (verse) (guit. 1) chords: C C G(6) x2 (on G chord play the high `E` open rather than 3rd fret) (guit. 2) (the little figure he plays between the G and the C of part b))

part b (guit. 1) chords: C C F# F (guit. 2) D: (guit. 1) chord: G (while the `G` is ringing guit. 2 plays: (guit.1 2nd verse)--> C C G Guitar 1 begins 2nd verse (same as first) in the middle (the chords are indicated above guit.2`s tab.)

2nd verse (guitar 1) chords: (the C C G written in above figure) and repeat (without guitar 2 until riff #1 is replayed)

then replay `part b` after you play that (adjust the ending appropriately) the song gets fast again.

(guit.1) chord: G (guit.2) E: B: G: as guit.2 plays the `7` guit.1 begins **1** again. then both guitars do **3** then guit.1 does **2** (as written) while guit.2 solos. then guit.1 does **1** then guitars 1 and 2 do **3** and guit.3 solos then vocals come back in and guit.1 plays **2** (play notes of chord separately again)

(guit. 1) D: A: E:

(guit. 2)

(guit.1) D:

$$$ (guit.1) chords: G

(guit.2)

(guit.1)

(guit.2) repeat from $$$ then (guit.1) chords: C

(guit.2) E: E: (guit.1) B:--0-0-0-

then guit.1 does **1** while guit.3 solos then guitars 1 and 2 do **3** while guit.3 solos then guit.1 does **2** while guit.3 solos then guit.1 plays **1** while guit.3 plays this: guit.3 continues to play that lick and guitars 1 and 2 play **3**

then vocals return and guit.1 plays **2** (notes of chord broken) then **4** is played

THE END

LEGEND: --4^6- = play 4 hammer on 6 --4b5- = play 4 bend up to 5 --5r4- = play 5 release down to 4 --4R- = ride on that note

*gasp* for breath.. nasty tab to write out I`m sure it`ll be semi nasty to decipher as well, but it`s pretty much complete other than the solos.. I play this with only 1 other guitarist. In the case where you only have 2 guitarists the soloing (guit.3) replaces guit.2 (when they`re both playin together..)

The only way to figure out this tab and the song is to listen to the song a bunch of times while trying to follow the tab and play yer guitar.. Though the tab looks kinda chaotic, and there r lotsa references to **3** and **2** etc (which you`ll have to memorize ;) it`s fairly complete.

Hope some1 uses this tab to it`s potential ;)
