For the intro, play the whole figure straight through twice. For the verses, just play the first half.

The low E`s are sort of optional -- if it`s tough, just play the high E`s by themselves, or kindly ask a bass player to play them.

I have just read an interview with Page where he explains how exactly he plays the riff in "Whole lotta love". The tablature in the archive is fine, but the original sounds a little differen t. Here we go :

D----0---0-----|-------------- and repeate.

~ stands for slight bend, which is the trick here. D sounds on two strings simultaniousely.
