Here's an ear-catching Sonic Youth song (off of Sister) that can be played with normal tunage. The basic chord structure (and the intro) is:

(Riff) I cross myself, it doesnt help

(Riff played twice) We cross it out and stay away

(after this part, the sonic noise steps in for awhile then it goes back to the intro again)

The song gets sonically noisy again with the high E-string riff playing repeatedy. And that is it!
